Quests can be broken down into several categories.
Main Quests are needed to progress the "story" and need to be completed relatively in order for the next one to be unlocked. They often have the highest prize yield. Many of the quests that Akihiro Kurata and Richard Sampson give are Main Quests. They can be recognized by the Purple exclamation mark on maps or above NPC.
Sub Quests are extra quests that give additional experience and money. They are characterized by Yellow exclamation marks.
Daily Quests are quests that can be completed once per day and are recurring. Some Main and Sub quests become Daily quests once they are completed the first time. These quests are denoted by Blue exclamation marks.
Repeatable Quests are similar to Daily quests, but can be started again as soon as they are completed. Many of these coincide with Events. Blue exclamation marks are also used on maps and above NPC, thus, it will disappear once the event have expired.
